India Sunrise

So last week I mentioned my beloved India.  This week I went back and read several old blog post from our time in India.  It was a trip down memory lane to see the least!  So today I am putting in a little promotional piece about my beloved India.  If you have never been to India then I say, “GO.”  This is a country like no other!  Who knew caos could be so incredibly fun!  This is a culture like nothing you have ever experienced.  The hospitality is off the charts.  The insane amount of color can’t help but make you smile.  The crazy lack of organization just makes you feel like there is no need for control.  When I was in India I put together a list of things I was learning about the culture…for those of you that have visited this country, hopefully this brings a smile to your face and you can’t help but agree.

When an Indian person bobs their head from left to right this means, “sure, ok.”Toilet paper is extremely rare and you have to drive 30 minutes in order to buy it.

A cold drink is a real treat.  Refrigerators are rare.

The children have very good English.  Many of them learn English in school.  Many of the children will shake our hands, introduce themselves and inform us of their age.

Things here are extremely cheap.

You can buy chocolate while in India.

Bugs are everywhere, I choose to not think about them!

Orphanages are a major need.

Wearing a silver toe ring and a necklace symbolizes that you are married.

Hospitality is huge!  People go out of their way to help you and to serve you.

Chai Tea is not said out here…instead chai is the tea.

Everything is sweet, including their rice.  Many people are diabetic because of the white rice.

People are so hungry for the gospel.

People tend to simply add Jesus to their list of Gods.

A picture means so much to a person.  Many people have never had a picture taken of them and the tears you see in their eyes as a result is priceless.

If you hear a horn honk or a bell it’s best to move out of the way or you are bound to get run over.

Everyone has a cell phone it seems!  If a cell phone rings during church that person will get up and leave to answer it, including the preacher.  I have seen preachers stop preaching so they can answer their phone.

Cows, chickens and goats wonder the streets.  When night falls, the animals return home.
