October’s Box of Blessings Reveal!!

This month’s box sponsored a clean water filter for Haiti. In January of 2010, Haiti was rocked by a 7.0 earthquake. Over 230,000 people died, 1.5 million people were displaced, and 660,000 suffered from cholera. Cholera is caused and spread through unclean water. For $60, a water filter that is simple to use and easy to maintain can be installed within a few minutes. These filters can then provide clean water for more than 10 years!

These Fiori Stud Earrings are handmade in Peru in a workshop that supports 10 workers as well as another 6 artisans that work from home. They are made with alpaca silver and semi precious stones with a sterling silver post.

This purple Paper Bead Link Bracelet is handcrafted by Project Have Hope in Uganda. Each bead is a strip of paper, that has been carefully and tightly rolled. The beads are then linked together to create this work of art. Project Have Hope is empowering 100 women in the Acholi Quarter by helping them to establish business opportunities that promote economic stability and sustainability. They also provide the women and their children with an education.  Many of these women are not only caring for their own children, but also care for children that have been orphaned by HIV related illnesses.

This lightweight scarf is handmade on foot looms by women in the highlands of Totonicapan, Guatemala. Lucia’s Imports is committed to long term partnerships, fair trade values, and preserving the traditional craft of weaving.
