All products in this month’s box were handcrafted in Lima, Peru through Sanyork Fair Trade. Sanyork is dedicated to overcoming and reducing poverty for the 66 artisan families that currently work with them. The gourd barrette was handcarved with a colorful design of butterflies, dragonflies, or flowers. The wooden beads for the multicolor bracelet came from a village in the middle of the Peruvian jungle. And the friendship bracelet was a handwoven token of friendship from Peru to the receiver!
The featured item was pink fishscale earrings! These are my favorite!! Who would of thought fishscales could create such uniqe, stylish earrings! The paiche are one of the largest fresh-water fish in the world. They are huge, plentiful, and a main food source from the Amazon. The scales are dyed to create these beautiful earrings. I have a pair of white fishscale earrings, and I wear them all the time. They are so light, and dress up a casual outfit quite nicely!
Our featured cause was Heifer International. Heifer Intl. works with communities to end world hunger, poverty, and to care for the Earth. This month we donated a Flock of Hope. This flock may include chicks, ducks, or goslings. Families will also be taught how to care for their birds. Benefits of a Flock of Hope include daily protein with eggs, an income through the sale of eggs, and fertilizer for crops to improve production.
