Have you ever felt lonely?
I bet you have or maybe you do today.
Well, I have some good news for you!
July 11th is “Cheer up the Lonely Day”.
So, whether you are the lonely one or know of someone who is lonely, today is the day to change that. Here are 10 ideas how.
- Visit a nursing home and search out those who never receive visitors. Then have a chat, play games, or just listen to their life story.
- Volunteer at an animal shelter. Not only will you have fun and lots of friends, but you will be making a difference.
- Smile. Whether you are by yourself, with friends, or on a crowded street, a smile can light up the whole area. And the best thing is that it is contagious! Try it and see how many smiles you can ignite!
- Invite family, friends, or kids to a local park for a picnic and day of fun.
- Take stuffed animals and toys to a children’s hospital and spend a few hours creating smiles, laughter, and joy.
- Call up a friend or family member who is homebound or away from home.
- Offer to babysit for a single mom who needs a night out with friends.
- Cook a meal for someone who is homebound or sick and eat with them.
- Sponsor a child and send him/her letters and pictures.
- Give amusement park tickets to a family who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
- Here is a list to help make you feel better too!
Cheer Up the Lonely Day is a great way to make difference in the lives of people you know or in the lives of complete strangers. It’s a day to remember the many blessings that each of us have in life and give thanks for them.
